Our Favorite Hacks for Recording Virtually

Casey Combest: Ah, the golden days of recording a podcast when you could do it all in person. That's just not how it works anymore. Oftentimes your guests might be in a different city or town, or they just might not wanna come to your studio because they're busy, uh, with a meeting right after your podcast. So what do you do?

On today's episode, we're gonna talk about our favorite hacks for recording. When you're not. In the same town as your guest. First, we'll be using a term called double back, and a double back is when you record on your end. You record on the guest end and you link those up after in post-production. Some of our favorite tools for using a double back when the guest doesn't have access to a great studio or a great podcasting mic, is to just use the iPhone.

Sometimes you can place that with the microphone facing them on a coffee cup or a shelf right in front of. And get some really great audio, especially if the room is generally quiet as well. You could ask your guest to use QuickTime, which will record uncompressed audio if you use the right settings when you go to new audio recording.

It can be a really simple and seamless way for you to grab the high res audio from your computer just by simply clicking the record button. And one of the things we love about it, once you tell it what source you want to. Uh, clicking on high or maximum, you're gonna get uncompressed quality audio, which is great.

Lastly, and this is certainly our favorite, is exploring something like Riverside or Streamy Yard or Squad Cast to record higher quality audio for your guest, there is a little warning I would give you here. Most of these platforms record on their computer, so make sure when you're done and you say, great job, goodbye that they don't close their browser really quick until you see that there's episodes are actually uploaded.

We've had that happen before and it is super scary and. Hey guys. Thanks for watching. I hope this helped. Try to double back on your next podcast recording and we'll see you soon. Thanks again for watching.
